Wood Like Fabric

I was very interested in how wood can be its own sculptural piece but is also often a base for other materials to rest on or to hold some specific shape. I then glued together strips of fabric and used it as the material that held the wood. The fabric is used in a square at the very top, near the ceiling, and also in the triangle holding the middle of the piece together. I then thinly sliced a piece of plywood and then steam bent them into organic shapes. I wanted the wood to look more like fabric or ribbon, while the fabric held its shape like wood traditionally would.
This piece was an earlier exploration of the tropic above. In this piece I was learning different types of joints and then attached yarn to it and stiffened it to make the yarn hold its shape after drying. The shape the yarn made references the pieces of wood.
